New Jim Morrison Documentary in the Works; Hopes to Debunk Myths About Late Doors Singer
2:37PM Wednesday
March 20, 2013

A new independent documentary about Jim Morrison that recently began production is hoping to break on through the myths surrounding the late Doors frontman and portray him in a more realistic and down-to-earth light.

Before the End: Jim Morrison Comes of Age will feature interviews with Morrison family members and various friends of the singer, and will include rare home movies and photos from his early years.  Z-Machine, a company run by husband-and-wife filmmakers Jeff and Jess Finn, is spearheading the project.

Among the people who will appear in the film are Jim's brother, Andy Morrison; his close childhood friend Jeff Morehouse; his Florida State University roommate Bryan Gates; Doors roadie Gareth Blyth; and Morrison's UCLA film instructor Bill Adams.  The Finns also conducted off-the-record interviews with Jim's sister, Anne Morrison-Chewning; early girlfriends Tandy Martin and Mary Werbelow; and friend Alain Ronay, who visited the singer in Paris shortly before his untimely passing at age 27.

In addition to examining Morrison's formative, pre-Doors years and his various pursuits -- musical and nonmusical -- Before the End also will take a look at his mysterious death in July 1971.

The filmmakers are planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign to help them raise funds for the project.  To more about the documentary, visit ZMachine.net and BeforeTheEndMovie.com.
